Montreal Family Seeks Mystery Hero Who Saved Father's Life
Montreal, Canada – A Montreal family is on a heartfelt mission to find a Good Samaritan who performed a life-saving act of CPR, giving 87-year-old Sabato Borrelli a second chance at life after he suffered cardiac arrest during his daily walk.
On May 15, around 3 p.m., Sabato Borrelli collapsed, likely near Jarry Park. An unidentified passerby immediately sprang into action, performing CPR for approximately 20 minutes until paramedics arrived. Thanks to this swift and selfless intervention, Borrelli is now alive and recovering in the hospital, where he recently celebrated his 87th birthday.
His daughter, Gloria Borrelli, is leading the charge to identify and personally thank the individual who gave her family the invaluable gift of more time with her father. "This gentleman, or woman or child — I don't know who saved my father," she said. "All they wanted was this person to have a chance, and he was given that chance."
Medical authorities, including the American Heart Association (AHA), emphasize the critical importance of immediate action in cardiac arrest cases. For every minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation, the chance of survival decreases by 7-10%. The quick thinking of Borrelli's rescuer helped maintain vital blood flow to his brain and organs, buying precious time until emergency services could take over.
The emotional impact of this rescue runs deep for the Borrelli family. Lucy Orfeo, Sabato's daughter-in-law, shared that his recovery brings a poignant mix of hope and sorrow. Tragically, almost three years ago, her daughter Martina—Sabato’s granddaughter—died suddenly at age 20 from a brain hemorrhage and cardiac arrest, despite being in an ambulance at the time.
Now, the stranger's heroic act feels like a beautiful tribute to Martina, who was known for her compassion and positive spirit. "If you're kind you can change the world,' that's what she would say. That was her thing, so it's kind of like what's fuelling me," Orfeo explained, driven by her granddaughter's philosophy in her search for the rescuer.
"Our family was given a second chance," she added, highlighting the profound gratitude and renewed hope felt by the entire family.
